So you want to know more about the current EV market. Well, we are here to help! When it comes to buying an Electric Vehicle there are a number options to choose from, both new and old. We will list a few of those here.  This is not a complete list of all the EVs available, but a list of the more popular ones.  Many of these vehicles are also available in the used vehicle market. We will add some links those at the end of this page. First let’s take a look at some of the more popular EVs in Canada!

Tesla Model 3

Max Range: 518 km range
Base Price: $53700

 

Tesla Model 3  is a 5-seat, midsize sedan with lots of cargo space. The quick acceleration, 500+km range, sleek design and futuristic control panel makes one of the most sought after EVs in the market. Model 3 is available in a few different variations.The standard version starts at price of $53700 and has range of 402 km. Long Range RWD has a range of 523km and a price tag of $67200 while the performance versions goes 0-100 in 3.4 seconds, top speed of 261 km and comes with a price tag of CAD80700. A Model 3 can charge upto 80% charge in 30 minutes at a standard supercharger and has a maximum charge rate of 1000km/hour at V3 Supercharge.

2020 Bolt EV

Max Range: 417 km
Base Price: $44,800

The Chevy Bolt EV is another popular EV in North America. This 5 passenger wagon/small crossover is the first long range EV from GM and offers up to 417 km in on a single charge and has a starting price of $44,800.

Tesla Cybertruck

Max Range: 800 km
Base Price: $55,000*

Three versions of the Tesla Cybertruck are going to be available with different battery packs and drivetrain configurations. The single motor RWD version will offer 400 km of range. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version will reach 500 km of range, and a tri-motor version will have 800 km of range. Cybertruck can tow up to 14,000 pounds, seats six people, has onboard power and compressed air, and has 3,500 pounds of payload capacity. 0-60 acceleration is quoted as 2.9 sec.

2020 Nissan Leaf

Max Range: 363 km
Base Price: $44,298

2020 Nissan Leaf another New EV available for purchase. They come in a three different models with a starting price between $44,298, to $49,498 with the higher versions offering maximum range up to 363 km on a single charge and can charge upto 80% in 60 minutes using a fast charger.

Tesla Model Y

Max Range: 509 km
Base Price: $65,000

Model Y is the long awaited small crossover from Tesla. It is currently available in 5 seat interior and 7 seat interior version is expected to be available in 2021. The long range RWD rated at 509 km, can accelerate from 0-100km in 5.8 sec comes a starting price of $65,000. It is also available in dual motor AWD and a performance Model which goes 0-100 in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 241 kmph and a range of 509 km. It comes with a higher price tag of $74,600.

Hyundai Kona Electric

Max Range: 415 km
Base Price: $44,999

Kona Electric is the first long range EV from Hyundai. It is a small crossover that has an estimated maximum range of 415 km and has a starting price of $45,599. Since becoming available in Canada, it has become one of the number one selling EV’s in our country.

Tesla Model S

Max Range: 629 km
Base Price: $111,600

Model S is the car that changed public perception about electric cars in general. Before Tesla launched Model S the main arguments against EVs were they are too slow, you can’t travel far in them, they are odd looking and the list goes on.. Model S is not just best EV, but the best car in its class! period. Till this date, it remains the most popular car in it’s segment outselling the competition by a good margin. With the new version available for sale, it also is the EV with most range.  When Tesla launched Model S P100, it also became the quickest production car in the world with acceleration of 0-100 in a heartstopping 2.6 seconds.  With roomy premium interior, exceptionally good looks and plenty of cargo space, Model S continues to dominate the premium big sedan market. In Canada, the long range version starts at $111,600 with maximum range of 629 km and 0-100 kmph 3.8 seconds and the performance version starts at $136,600 with range of 560 km and does 0-100kmph in 2.6 seconds with the Ludicrous Mode upgrade and 3.2 without it. There are also plenty of Model S vehicles available in the used car market at significantly lower prices.

Jaguar I-Pace

Range: 377 km
Base Price: $89,800

With the introduction of I-Pace, Jaguar  made their entry into the EV market. I-Pace is a small CUV with very stylish exterior and EPA estimated range of 377 km and can do 0-100 in 4.8 seconds. It has 394 Hp and 90 kwh battery pack. In Canada it has a starting price of $89,800. It comes in AWD model only.

Tesla Model X

Max Range: 565 km
Base Price: $118,600

Model X is the signature SUV model from Tesla. The large all glass panoramic windshield, self-presenting front doors and Falcon Wing doors makes it stand out in a field of well designed and stylish Tesla vehicles. Like other Tesla models, it has scored 5star rating in NHTSA crash tests. It has AWD and comes in 5 seat, 6 seat and 7 seat configurations.  The second and third row in the seven-seat option are capable of folding flat and flush, creating extra cargo space. With room for 7 passengers, plenty of cargo space, this is be a great choice for a family needing more room. It comes with a removable tow kit capable of towing 2250 kg.  The Long Range version has a range of 565 km, can accelerate 0-100 kmph in 4.6 seconds and starts at $118,600. The performance version can  go from 0-100 kmph in 3.6 seconds with a max range of 491 kms and starts at $143,600, while the Ludicrous Mode upgrade makes it much quicker at 2.9 seconds from 0-100 kmph.

2020 IONIQ Electric

Max Range: 274 kms

Base Price: $33,045

2020 IONIQ Electric is the shorter range and more affordable EV from Hyundai. This is a well designed sedan mostly suitable for daily commute and shorter trips.  This vehicle can get from 0 to 80% charge in under an hour using a CCS charger rated at 100 Kw, at which is the most common CCS chargers currently deployed. It is not the most ideal vehicle for long distance travel with a maximum range of 275km. However, most people’s daily commute is less than 150km and if you’re looking an EV for daily commute in an around the city and short trips this is an option worth looking.

2020 BMW i3 

Max Range: 246 kms

Base Price: $44,950

BMW i3 is another EV available for purchase currently. It has a maximum daily range of 172 and has an starting price of $44,450.  While it might not be ideal for long trips, good option for a daily commute vehicle and city living. 2021 Rivian R1T

Max Range: 643 kms

Base Price: $92,700

The futuristic R1T is an all-electric pickup truck from new American startup brand Rivian, and it promises more than 400 miles of driving range and acceleration times comparable with those of a supercar at around 3.0 seconds 0-60 km/h. Rivian is targeting the “adventure truck” market, looking for buyers who use their trucks for off-roading and camping. Because of this, this truck has great flexibility of use with an 11,000 pound towing capacity and plenty of storage.
